Leadership Philosophy

Personal Definition of Leadership:

There are great leaders around the world, and each of them has a unique way of leading. Humanity has studied and adapted many theories of leadership throughout history; therefore, there is a path to finding leadership that best suits our role as citizens and in our workplaces. Ultimately, this journey is unique, and the person we become defines our contribution to our communities. After all, leadership involves a deep understanding of oneself, a journey inward to discover one's purpose and values, building relationships, and engaging in interaction with those we serve (Northouse, 2026). The leader is authentic and creative (Duarte, Ribeiro, Semedo, & Gomes, 2021), builds trust among followers, fosters direction in problem-solving, and builds support networks to achieve specific objectives. While leadership involves challenges, the leader must decide when to act in a positive direction, based on the political landscape and other circumstances at the time, and ultimately act in accordance with ethical and moral values.  Leaders should also possess a set of internal traits (Northouse, 2026, p. 26), and they have the honor to use them to impact others individually or in groups. Leadership provides the vision and mission to the leader.
